The History of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. 1932-1967 by Helen Sullivan Miller
Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1932, initially as a professional organization for registered nurses and student nurses, with the goal of elevating nursing and increasing interest in the field. The sorority was organized by Aliene C. Ewell, RN, with the help of 11 other nurses at Freedman's Hospital School of Nursing (now Howard University Hospital) in Washington D.C. The sorority's charter chapter, Alpha Chapter, Inc., was established with a focus on both professional development and community service.
